Bill Walsh (William Henry Walsh) was born on September 8, 1927 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. After going to high school at Phillipsburg (NJ), Walsh attended the University of Notre Dame. Walsh made his professional debut in the NFL in 1949 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for his entire 5 year career.
