Born on May 24, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri, Bill Wakefield (William Sumner Wakefield) played for the New York Mets for his entire 1 year career. Wakefield broke into the bigs on April 18, 1964 with the New York Mets, and put up a 3.61 ERA in 119.2 innings pitched in 1964, his rookie year.
