A Pittsburgh native, Thomas scored his first goal with the Penguins on February 11, 2009 in a game against the San Jose Sharks played at Mellon Arena. The Penguins eventually won the game 2-1 in a shootout as Sidney Crosby notched the only tally in the extra frame.
