Bill Sortet (Wilbur John Sortet) was born on June 25, 1912 in Vincennes, Indiana. After going to high school at Huntington (WV), Sortet attended West Virginia University. Sortet made his professional debut in the NFL in 1933 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that 1938 was Bill Sortet's best year, as he caught 4 TD passes.
