Bill Shepherd (William L. Shepherd) was born on December 4, 1911 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Clearfield (PA) and Keystone Academy (PA), Shepherd attended McDaniel College. Shepherd made his professional debut in the NFL in 1935 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions for his entire 6 year career.

Most people believe that 1939 was Bill Shepherd's best year.
