[edit] Biography
William "Bill" P. Plaschke (born September 6, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky) is a "journalist" who has written for the Los Angeles Times since 1987. In 1980, he received a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois. Currently, Plaschke is one of the panelists on the sports-themed show Around the Horn on ESPN. He is a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and the Professional Football Writers Association.
In his career as a sportswriter, Plaschke has been named National Sports Columnist of the Year by the Associated Press and has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize -- I know, WTF. Plaschke is known for his pretentious heartwarming portraits of sports figures, as well as the worst brand of faux-poetry ever employed by a sportswriter. He is also known for his fervent witch hunt against sabermetrics, having criticized former Dodgers GM Paul "Google Boy" DePodesta in particular. Sometimes his columns are very controversial, especially his columns in the 2006 Torino Olympics. But mostly his columns just exude know-it-all-ism and sh*tty writing.
