Born on August 17, 1898 in Santa Barbara, California, Bill Pertica (William Andrew Pertica) played for the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 4 year career. Pertica broke into the bigs on August 7, 1918 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 3.37 ERA in 208.1 innings pitched in 1921, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill Pertica's best season was 1921, when he posted a 3.37 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 67 batters.
