Bill Nicholson (William Beck Nicholson) was born on December 11, 1914 in Chestertown, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on June 13, 1936 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1939, his rookie year, he hit .295 with 5 home runs and 38 RBI. Nicholson played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 16 year career.

Most people believe that Bill Nicholson's best season was 1944, when he slugged 33 home runs, hit for a .287 average and knocked in 122 runs.
