Bill Keister (William Hoffman Keister) was born on August 17, 1871 in Baltimore, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on May 20, 1896 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 1899, his rookie year, he hit .329 with 3 home runs and 73 RBI. Keister played for the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Beaneaters, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Senators and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 7 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Bill Keister's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1902, when he stole 27 bases, hit for a .300 average and knocked in 90 runs. However, others believe that it was 1899, when he stole 33 bases, hit for a .329 average and knocked in 73 runs.
