Born on July 31, 1913 in Rowland, California, Bill Fleming (Leslie Fletchard Fleming) played for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 6 year career. Fleming broke into the bigs on August 21, 1940 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 3.01 ERA in 134.1 innings pitched in 1942, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Bill Fleming's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1944, when he posted a 3.13 ERA. However, others believe that it was 1942, when he posted a 3.01 ERA and struck out 59 batters.
