Born on August 9, 1948 in Highland Park, Michigan, Bill Campbell (William Richard Campbell) played for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers and Montreal Expos over the course of his 15 year career. Campbell broke into the bigs on July 14, 1973 with the Minnesota Twins, and put up a 3.14 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched in 1973, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Bill Campbell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1977, when he posted a 2.96 ERA, won 13 games, notched 31 saves and struck out 114 batters. However, others believe that it was 1976, when he posted a 3.01 ERA, won 17 games, notched 20 saves and struck out 115 batters.
