Born on March 22, 1918 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Bill Butland (Wilburn Rue Butland) played for the Boston Red Sox for his entire 4 year career. Butland broke into the bigs on May 29, 1940 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 2.51 ERA in 111.1 innings pitched in 1942, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill Butland's best season was 1942, when he posted a 2.51 ERA.
