Bill Brace (George Wells Brace) was born on November 19, 1895 in Sheridan, New York. After going to high school at Dunkirk (NY), Brace attended Brown University. Brace made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Buffalo All-Americans. He played in the APFA for 2 years, playing for the Buffalo All-Americans the entire time. Brace also played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the Buffalo All-Americans the entire time.
