Bill Blackburn (William Whitford Blackburn, Jr.) was born on February 5, 1923 in Welutka, Oklahoma. After going to high school at Stephen F. Austin (Houston, TX), Blackburn attended Rice University and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Blackburn made his professional debut in the NFL in 1946 with the Chicago Cardinals. He played for the Chicago Cardinals for his entire 6 year career.

Most people believe that 1948 was Bill Blackburn's best year, as he ran back 2 interceptions for touchdowns.
