Born on April 18, 1899 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill Bayne (William Lear Bayne) played for the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 9 year career. Bayne broke into the bigs on September 20, 1919 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 3.70 ERA in 99.2 innings pitched in 1920, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill Bayne's best season was 1921, when he posted a 4.72 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 82 batters.
