With the Mariners, his team has gotten better several years in a row. That being said, it's hard to figure out where he's headed with the team. Has let several players go for nothing who produced well for others, and you wonder why he couldn't get trade value. Similarly, he's pulled off a number of trades where he was clearly out-GMed...they got value, we got next to nothing (both long and short term). For each free agent win, he's got about three free agent bombs...and some of them were truly stinkers. Two stars unless and until the team goes beyond "average" and moves into the "really good team" zone.
