David Ortiz has been one of the greatest DH's baseball has seen in the past half decade. He has had many walk-off homeruns for the Red Sox, and was a major factor in the Redsox 2004 world series championship. Even though David Ortiz is struggling this year with his .314 average with only 14 home runs and 52 RBI's the redsox still have the best record in the MLB. So how does he not make the Home Run Derby when Albert Pujols who has a .310 batting average and 16 home runs and 52 RBI's with a struggling Cardinals team coming off there 2006 world series win.
David Ortiz and Albert Pujols have almost identical stats, yet Pujols is in the home run derby while Ortiz is sitting on the bench. The MLB made a terrible decision to not put Ortiz in the home run derby. The MLB would have more people watch the home run derby, if Ortiz was in it because Boston is one of the biggest baseball cities in America. The MLB should change the way they pick the home run derby contestants, and let fans vote because fans are the ones paying the money to go to the derby and should be able to choose who they want to see. If Pujols made the derby then Ortiz should have to, that is a bad decision on the part of the MLB. So while you are watching the home run derby tonight think to yourself who you rather see up in the batters box, Big Papi or Albert Pujols.
