Born on March 31, 1882 in Champaign, Illinois, Big Jeff Pfeffer (Francis Xavier Pfeffer) played for the Chicago Cubs, Boston Beaneaters, Boston Doves and Boston Rustlers over the course of his 6 year career. Pfeffer broke into the bigs on April 15, 1905 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 2.50 ERA in 101 innings pitched in 1905, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Big Jeff Pfeffer's best season was 1906, when he posted a 2.95 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 158 batters.
