There comes upon a rare time a television show creates a special character, an individual being that transcends humanity. And among these immutable figures lies a plethora of diehard sports fans.
Play the game; come along for a mild ride; let's stroll down TV memory lane and apply it to sports.
Everyone watches TV (even hippies). Everyone picks their favorites (even monks). You will think of one I brainlessly forget, please add it in comments. Have factual material to add to the topic? Edit the article and work your magic!
What are some diehard sports fan TV characters?
Thomas Magnum, Magnum P.I. - Tigers Die Hard
- I couldn't watch the World Series without thinking of Magnum (I mean back in 1984!!!)
- What a 'stache! I CHALLENGE someone to start a comprehensive collection of Baseball's BEST mustaches!
Henry Blake, M*A*S*H - Diehard Illini fan
- One of my favorite shows as a kid, I wanted to become a liver surgeon and die from liver disease; I'm half-way there.
- When Illinois plays on TV, I want to go fly fishing.
- I also can't think Toledo (Mudhens) without seeing Jamie Farr
- caught ya off guard eh?
Jerry Seinfeld, Seinfeld - Diehard Mets fan.
- I know you dorks can quote J.S. until we all get spat upon by Keith Hernandez, back and to the left.
- purposely made Costanza a Yankee employee to wish a jinx upon the Bombers. Oddly enough; Explain Danny Tartabull's career?!?!? Also, The "Costanza Series", when the bastards from Houston came and finally played their first game in the Bronx, they No-HIT the Yanks!!! (using 854 pitchers)
Joey - Friends - Die Hard Rangers & Knicks fan, basebally/footbally ambiguous
- Joey was a numbnuts but routinely scored premium front row tickets, all while rarely having a job or reportable income!
- Moved to L.A. and became a Northwestern Fan, WTF? Says what Hollywood thinks about New York sports fans...
Tim Allen - Home Improvement - All things MNichigan fan
- Also is President of Binford Tools and hosted a TV show, "Tool Time"
- The girl that played Heidi used to date Mike Piazza (know this for a fact)
- I can't help but think there's a Curse of Toolman out there
Jim Belushi - Whatever his show is called - Diehard Cubs fan
- single handedly blew the '89 Cubs' chances to hell with his "break out of jail to see the Cubs in the Series" movie. That was so awkward because I liked the Angels (starring Wally Joyner) at the time.
- What would the world be like if John was still around and Jim died?
Mr. C - Happy Days - Braves fan
- Met Hank Aaron
- had two different estranged sons (Chuck 1 & Chuck 2) that played basketball at State U.
The main character kid - Wonder Years - Jets Fan
- Had a Jets jacket, at least
- Did he ever bag Winnie?
Sam Malone - Cheers - Former (wink, wink) BoSox hurler/flameout
- Ted Danson, second dorkiest turd/ TV cool guy/ladiesman (right behing Henry Winkler, who's cooler now than ever?)
- At least he admitted the best part of Boston was getting drunk.
Drew Carey - Drew Carey claptrap Show - Browns fan, Cleveland misanthrope
- a waste of Dad's swimmers that somehow bags multiple hot chicks, all while living in Cleveland, working in a department store.
- HOW can Cleveland be proud or feel pride when Drew Carey is BMOC?
Bill Cosby - Multiple conflabications - fan of colleges
- He didn't graduate from Temple (but Bob Saget did!), he graduated from UMass!
- I think he once wore a Florida S&M sweatshirt
- he did play football at Temple. What's that tell you?
Dharma - Dharma and Greg (yeah, I watch it)
- Dharma became obsessed with the 49ers
- Met Steve Young and wore a Golden Gate Bridge hat
- Jenna Elfman was an Addicted to Love chick for Robert Palmer
The Formans - That 70's Show
- family (minus Eric, the Bears fan) and friends cheer on the Packers
- use Packers helmet as "Stupid Hat"
- Best character on the show (Red) is a Bucks fan.
Al Bundy - Married, With Children - Polk High Football
- once scored 4 TDs in one game
- Met former SuperBowl MVP Larry Brown (and scrub Bo Jackson, in the same episode!!!)
The Douche bag kid from Boy Meets World - Philly fan
- I couldn't watch that show because he was a turd that had Phillies and Eagles stuff everywhere
- The old guy, whats-his-name William Daniels should have been the voice of KITT FOREVER!!!! Although I loved ER Part 1, a.k.a. St Elsewhere!
I dare you! I watch not nearly enough TV. Add the other ones that I missed!!!

Don't forget the fellas on Boston Legal. Let's see...which team do they like again? ....... I just can't seem to remember.
And I'm pretty sure the guys on Prison Break are huge Bengals fans.
