Ok, ok... we all love Best of lists:

Yesterday's Hottest Female Athletes list was fun and all (Does ANYONE remember Dara Torres-Gowen? I know I'll never forget her!!!), but this IS a sports site, right?

So, let's put the TRUE sports knowledge to the test all you sports knowledge kings and princes...

Who are the best CURRENT female athletes??

No Jackie Joyner Kersees, Mia Hamms or Babe Didriksons...

Again...Not hottest or most famous; simply most talented, best performing and dominant in their sport.

Let's start with some nominees and whittle it down later: Again, you're nominating the ATHLETES, not the babes

Also, I dare someone to start a "who's ugliest" list - I guess it's all a chase for second behing 'Sam I Am' in the men's category

You know, I hate to admit it, but I have no clue who is the best femal athlete in the world. I would say it is likely the best female marathon runner. The name - I do not know.

That would be Paula Radcliffe, the only decent British athlete. She's broken the Marathon World Record about four times. Always finishes fourth (if at all) at the Olympics.

Michelle Wie might supplant her in the next few years, but right now no doubt the most dominant female athlete is golfer Annika Sorenstam. The hype around Wie has definitely taken the spotlight off of Annika but you can't argue with the numbers. She's won 9 majors, and over 80 wins on the LPGA. During '05 she also won 5 tournaments in a row, being only the second woman ever to do so. For most of the past few years, she has been untouchable.

I think it's a toss up between Sorenstam and Osterman. It's really hard to makea judgement between sports like that. Sorenstam has dominated the LPGA for years, but Osterman also dominated softball like I don't think anyone has. She almost carried the UT team to the College World Series last year despite the fact that they hit like the Kansas City Royals. Then this year, she was lights-out even when she lost. She's the only woman to win softball's player of the year more than once, and she won it three times. So, I think it has to be a toss up between Sorenstam and Osterman.
