Bert Shurtleff (Bertrand Leslie Shurtleff) was born on August 3, 1897 in Adamsville, Rhode Island. After going to high school at Academy (East Greenwich, RI), Shurtleff attended Brown University. Shurtleff made his professional debut in the NFL in 1925 with the Providence Steam Roller. He played for the Boston Bulldogs and Providence Steam Roller over the course of his 2 year career.
