Born on November 11, 1869 in Essex, Vermont, Bert Abbey (Bert Wood Abbey) played for the Washington Senators, Chicago Colts and Brooklyn Bridegrooms over the course of his 5 year career. Abbey broke into the bigs on June 14, 1892 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 3.45 ERA in 195.2 innings pitched in 1892, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bert Abbey's best season was 1892, when he posted a 3.45 ERA and struck out 77 batters.
