Bernie Kosar: Insightful, drunk

Bernie Kosar was working the game, as the in-booth analyst. I'd just like to say that he is fantastic as an analyst. He gives great insight, he's technical enough for the real football people, yet verbose enough to explain what he means. He shoots straight from the hip, which is endlessly entertaining, against either his home team, or the road team. It's especially helpful, because he can give great insight of what's going on in the brain of the quarterback before, during, and after a play. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the sidelines in the next couple of years. His football knowledge is immense.

But, he kind of sounds drunk. Not that this is a bad thing, if I had to sit through every moment of the Browns games, I'd also start drinking heavily and on the job. Now, he may have that raspy sound of a phone sex operator that was attacked by time and cigarette smoke inhalation. But I'm not sure how much of an effect that has on slurring words. Really, the combination of him possibly being drunk, and endlessly ripping some of the stupid plays that the NFL runs these days, he's now my favorite to listen to.

Also, Browns actually ended up winning. Don't get used to that, it shouldn't happen too often in the regular season. All the QBs looked much better than they did last week. Frye and Anderson are in a dead heat for backup QB in week 10, hard to say who'll win, but they made good plays and few mistakes. Not for nothing, but Brady now has 3 TDs in the pre-season, which is more than all the other QBs combined. He once again looked very competent against the 1st and 2nd teams.

"sounds kind of drunk"

Bernie couldn't scramble to save his life. His head was drilled on more than just a few occassions.

Yo Adrian!

He's a really smart guy, both on the football field and off. After his football career was over, he made a lot of money as a business man in realty, I believe. I have a lot of respect for what he says in the booth, and probably any life advice he would give to me, he's done pretty well. But, that doesn't take away from the fact that he sounds... not sober. Which is funny.

Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who felt like Kosar was sucking down some Colt 45 between snaps. I like the way he just rambles as the play is transpiring...I'm sure the play by play guy REALLY likes it. Something tells me that everytime Kosar closes his eyes he sees Mark Gasteneau doing a sack dance over his lifeless body.

I wondered who that was. Caught the NFL network rebroadcast, and the raspy guy was talking about his recruiting trip to Gainesville, to meet with then Gators' offensive coordinator Mike Shannahan, and that he flew in from Youngstown. All makes sense now. Yeah, I thought he was sober, but does need to work on his delivery a bit.

Haha, yeah. He sounds horrible. But his technical breakdown is really awesome.

I'm sure as a Browns fan he is a fun announcer to listen to, but he drove me crazy during the Lions-Browns preseason game. Both announcers made the game feel like it was an offense vs. defense Browns scrimmage, because it sure seemed like the Lions were never talked about.
