Benched him? Damn near wrecked ‘em!

Chicago is fed up and Grossman is riding the pine. It is being reported by NFL network that Brian Griese is going to get the start this week as the Bears go up against the Lions. (Insert “Wizard of Oz” joke here)

“Wrecks” Grossman has been on fire this season; and not “on fire” as in good, but on fire as in “Hindenburg disaster on fire”.  He is ranked 23 rd in the league with 500 yards on 47-89 (52.8% ) passing, but has a rating of 45.2 QB rating with his one touchdown and league-leading six interceptions.

This may be what the Bears need to light a fire under their offense.

Griese, a 10 year veteran, has a career passer rating of 84.5, a total of 16,564 yards on 63.0% passing, 104 TD and 80 INT.

Grossman on the other hand has a career rating of 69.3, 4996 yards on 54.2 percent passing, 28 TD and 32 INT.

Is Griese the answer? No. But he may help them this year to get the team on track. He can throw. And when you receivers like Muhammad and Berrian you need a guy that can throw the ball.

I do like the analogy of Good Rex/Bad Rex that every one has clung on to this season, very much a Jekyll and Hyde. He had several games last season with a rating over 100.00 and had several under 50.00 (one being at 0.00). That is not what you need under center. A Football team needs consistency and while youmay not believe it, that is what Griese will bring you.

So I say, Goodbye Rex. I hope you get to cash that check and realize you will NEVER start again. The Bears will be smart and go after something in the off season. Until then, Griese may pull a Dilfer and get this team a Super Bowl ring.

So long "Wrecks" your NFL career still surpassed the likes of:

Cade McNown Ryan Leaf Akli Smith Shaun King Michael Bishop Andrew Walter Aaron Rogers (as of now) David Carr Patrick Ramsey Kyle Boller Ken Dorsey (Your arch rival) and Chris Winkie

So nice job Rex you did better then I expected, and what is a career obituary without some career stats: 27 games, att/comp- 414/764 = 54.2 comp% 4996 yds, 28TDs/32INTs, 69.3 QB Rating

He never played more then 3 games in a season expect last year where his stats were as follows: 262/480 = 54.6% 23TDs/20INTs 73.9 QB Rating

Good Riddence to Sexy Rexy

I'm so sick of NFL fans who can't grasp the fact that QBs shouldn't be expected to perform at a high leven in their first few years. I'm even more sick of NFL teams that are supposed to know something about football that can't get the concept and play their young QBs too early. More Phillip Rivers, less Tim Couch. Grossman, Eli Manning and other QBs will make an impact at some point in the league, but only if a team gives them a chance to get on their feet.

I agree, as a Raiders fan I've been praying that I see the Palmer/Rivers/McNair model for grooming and raising a quarterback when it comes to JaMarcus Russell. It's rare that a guy (the only one that comes to mind that has won a SB is Peyton Manning) is drafted top 15 as a QB, plays signifcantly in his first year and is a big success afterwards and wins a SB. Alex Smith seems to currently to be closest to Manning as far as QBs drafted top 15 in the last few years who played signifcantly (6+ games) in their rookie year and will still end up a top-end QB. Vince Young seems to also have a shot at doing it, but sometimes waiting (Leftwich) doesn't do enough to make a guy a franchise quarterback.

It all depends on the QB. Roethlisberger went 15-1 his first year, won the superbowl his second then hit a wall (or windshield) in his third year. I think teams need to be better at knowing when to put a young QB. Just like people in all professions, some do better when they hit the ground running and some need time to be groomed.

Yes, but when he is LOSING games for you...do you leave him in? Kyle Orton had 10 wins and then they bring rex in in the playoffs and they lose. This is not saying Orton is better, but Rex has shown he has a propensity for blowing it.

I do think they should bench him and let him catch his breath and bring in a vet to school him a little. To claim he'll never start again and declare his career over is preposterous.

I am glad that Rex is finaly benched and Griese should do better. But, as all of us know that followed the Broncos a few years back Griese can be Rex like. That is why he isn't in Denver any more. I hope he does better as a Bear.

Don't all former Broncos do better after they leave?

That is true. Quarterbacks normally do better after they leave. Because they retire.
