Ben Lovejoy started playing NCAA Hockey at Boston College but after one season transferred to Dartmouth. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 7, 2008. He made his NHL debut for the Penguins on December 8, 2008 wearing uniform number 65. The Penguins lost 4-3 to the Buffalo Sabres at Mellon Arena in his debut game. For his part Lovejoy was a +1 and had one shot on goal against Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller.
