Beckham to join Watford???

Speculation has been rife in England since David Beckham signed for LA Galaxy about what he would do when the season comes to an end, loan deals have been mooted for months to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea......even Spurs! Galaxy have all along denied that Becks would be allowed to play competitive football this winter, understandably keen to protect their massive investment from any further injuries after the nightmare start he's had to his career there.

However an interesting twist in the story has now emerged in the English press with the news that Galaxy HAVE granted Beckham permission to train with an English club (presumably of his choice) during December and January but not to actually play any games for them. Despite all the big names touted around earlier in the year, it seems, somewhat bizarrely, that Watford could be his destination!

Although seemingly ludicrous at first, there are links which could see this happen - former Watford Director of Football Terry Byrne, a man with long term links to Manchester United who was instrumental in bringing players such as Danny Webber to the club uner Ray Lewington left to become Beckhams personal manager, and is still there. Watford is the closest club to the Beckhams UK base in Hertfordshire.....although saying that Arsenal's training ground is literally next door. If we're really clutching at straws here then apparently the Beckhams are friends of Watford's Life President, Elton John, so maybe the wiggy piano player has put in a good word.

Forget the fact he wouldn't play, if this happened it would be great for a club like Watford, for the younger players coming through the ranks such as John-Joe O'Toole and Alex Campana the experience that they would get from training with the former England captain for a couple of months would be absolutely invaluable. Could be a nice little selling point for Aidy Boothroyd as he attempts to persuade players to join the Hornets charge up the league come the January transfer window as well!!

I'm in full agreement of this-- Beckham is a loser has been-- just another athlete who was all hype-- he is by far the biggest disappointment I believe in sports history- this of course is loved by Jay Mariotti who seems to always go against the norm

That makes no sense to me whatsoever. Isn't Watford top of the table already? What is he going to do? On the other hand, if he does go, I will be laughing about how I basically knew that this whole Beckham/US deal would never come up.

Yeah they're top, but he wouldn't be playing for them, just training with them. The idea is for him to improve his fitness, as I said in the article the only benefit for Watford really would be his experience helping out the youngsters a bit - that and a bit of publicity of course!

I can't believe that he's included in the England squad to play Croatia. He is in need of some serious training, so it's probably a good idea to get back to fitness in England. There could be worse places for him to train other than watford. I just wish he would stay in LA where he and his surgically enhanced cattewalling wife fit into plastic wife fit right into

See your point - but 5 minutes to go, 0-0 in a must win game and there's a free-kick on the edge of the area - you'd give ANY money to have him on the bench rather than watch Joe Cole try and backheel it over the wall or Fat Frank smack it higher than Johnny Wilkinson!

If it improves his fitness for England games then that would be fine by me. It wouldn't hurt anyone, Watford or otherwise.

...saying that, given the financial trouble we've had in the past I wouldn't fancy Galaxy sueing us if he got injured in training!!

Galaxy should sue Beckham for being a waste of time and money-- at least Posh could flash everyone and try to even things out

This is completely untrue. I work at Watford on Sundays and I questioned some of the staff, they said nothing of the sort had been told to them. It's December now, so in theory they would be told a month before he 'arrives'
