Beckett, Sox Sink Halos

Josh Beckett took care of business in his first playoff appearance as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Beckett pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Red Sox to a 4-0 victory in game 1 of the ALDS against the LA Angels last night at Fenway Park. Josh Beckett out pitched John Lackey in what was advertised as a pitchers' duel. Beckett went 9 innings allowing just 4 hits, no walks, no runs, and striking out 8. While John Lackey continued his struggles against the Red Sox going 6 innings allowing 4 earned runs, 9 hits, two of which were homeruns, giving up 2 walks and striking out 2.

Kevin Youkilis hit a monster home run in the first inning which landed in the Monster Seats, to put the Red Sox ahead and they never looked back. The Angels had trouble getting anything going only managing four hits. In the third inning, David Ortiz hit a two run homer to put the Sox up 3-0. Manny Ramirez then singled and hustled to second on a pitch that just barely skipped away from the Angel catcher Mike Napoli. Mike Lowell took advantage of Manny being on second and brought him home on a shallow single up the middle, not many people expected Manny to score, but he hustled around and was safe by a mile.

From then on, Beckett was untouchable, retiring 19 straight batters at one point. Both teams have a day off to prepare for Friday night's game that pins Daisuke Matsuzaka against Kelvim Escobar.

I'm not picking on you Trizz, but hate it when people in general try to state the future. When people say "10 wins away", you're just assuming that the Red Sox are going to be in the World Series, and in fact win it.

That's not assuming anything. Saying we're 10 wins away is stating a fact. If we win 10 more games, we will have won the World Series.

I understand what you're saying Rawb, but would you honestly feel like someone is cocky if a Yankees fan said the same thing if they win tomorrow?

its 10 games thats is going to waste everyone's time. I can't even fathom a Red Sox + Patriots championship in the same season. It is going to be freaking AWESOME.

Didn't they do it in '04? It would kinda be the same thing wouldn't it? (except no "the curse has been reversed)

IF, I repeat, IF the Red Sox and Pats win their respective championships, I hate to judge and compare, but I'd say that '04 would probably be much better than '07. The 2004 ALCS, the "curse", back to back titles for the Pats...

Great start to the playoffs, Beckett pitches his 3rd career shutout in the postseason tying him for 2nd all-time. His had command of all three pitches tonight and was throwing strikes, must have gone 0-2 on 9-10 guys! Offense was acceptable, did ground into 3 dp's, solid fielding especially by the OF'ers, 1 down 10 to go

i dont know how many games the Pats won in 04, but im pretty sure it wasn't all of them. I can't see them losing to ANYONE this year. Its like playing Madden on the opening level out there. Brady / Moss are going to set records
