Bears waive Tank Johnson

The title says most of what there is to say really. Foolish man who appears to make awful decisions has thrown all the support the Bears organisation had offered him - 15 teammates, Smith, Angelo, Ted Philips and Ed McCaskey all went to visit him in jail - back in their faces. All he had to do to guarantee a long and highly lucrative career with the Bears was stay squeaky clean for 8 months, but no he has to go drink driving about two weeks after he gets out of jail. There aren't a lot of good ways to look at this; a young man who is talented, but clearly dumb and who had a very troubled upbringing may have thrown away his best chance in life, along with the oportunity to care financially for his family; the Bears organisation look like fools for putting their trust in him after his earlier round of troubles; some other team is now probably going to sign a pretty good tackle fairly cheap.
This really leaves the Bears in a bit of a hole at the tackle position as well. They should be OK if no one gets hurt, but an injury to Harris or Dvoracek could leave them seriously thin. If Johnson had pulled this crap before Scott signed with the Eagles they would probably have resigned him long term, but that particular horse has bolted the stable.
