Bear Fight In Chicago

This isn’t their year. The Boston Red Sox turned 86 years of misery and heartbreak into a World Series ring in 2004. One year later the Chicago White Sox put on a ring for the first time in 88 years. The next year the St. Louis Cardinals deemed the name Champions for the first time in 39 years. What about the Cubbies? A 101 yearlong drought, why can’t it end this year? Here are 10 reasons why the Cubs won’t break the cures in 2007.
10. Lou Pinella. That’s right I said it, I am not a Lou fan. So he has World Series as a manager (the 1990 Cincinnati Reds) however that team was built for him. Pete Rose made that team, and if he didn’t receive a lifetime ban Rose would have been the manager. Pinella has regular season success but with only one World Series title and a plethora of embarrassing playoff losses he isn’t the first Cubs World Series winner since 1906.
9. NL Central. Much too tough of a division for the Cubs. Milwaukee will play good ball until September and St. Louis takes the Division. Milwaukee or Pittsburgh (no that’s not a typo the Pirates) take second and a possible wild card.
8. Michael Barrett. The starting catcher can’t seem to catch, or get along with his pitchers, a great combination.
7. 30-35. I know the Yankees have caught up and are above .500, but the Cubs are not the Yankees. They are currently on a short two game win streak but they have had losing streaks of four or more three times all ready this year and that will happen again.
6. Carlos Zambrano. The pitching staff ace won’t pitch to Barret anymore. After a fight due to a pass ball Zambrano and Barret are not on the same page.
5. Mark Prior, Kerry Wood and Wade Miller. The three have never had a season without a stint on the disabled list. With out them the rotation is young and pathetic.
4. The Starting rotation. Three fifths of the rotation is young and unimpressive. Even Zambrano and Ted Lilly have not done any thing too amazing in their short careers.
3. 16-17. Their road record. They have picked it up as of late but with out strong road outings they can’t win.
2. 14-18. Their record at Wrigley. If you can’t win at home can you win at all?
1. 2003. Their best shot was erased and not by a fan near the left field foul line but by the Cubs' lack of ability to put the Marlins away in the ninth inning of that game and in game 7.
So I am sorry to break it to you Cubs fans, but no ring this year, sorry.
