Battle of the Aces: The Premiere Show

The battle of the aces will pit Minnesota Twins' Johan Santana, and the Cleveland Indians' C.C. Sabathia. The last time these two met, the end result was the same as the Carlos Silva vs Paul Byrd match up. Johan pitched great, and was out dueled by Sabathia 5-2, as Cleveland took game one of the series at the Metrodome.

The stage is set again, and this time it will be in Game three of a three game set between the division leading Cleveland Indians and the Minnesota Twins. Johan pitched 6 innings, allowing all five Cleveland runs (three earned), on six hits, striking out eight, while walking two. Johan also gave up a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to Indians' center fielder Grady Sizemore. The Twins bull pen pitched four innings, allowing no runs, two hits, striking out three while walking one. Santana is 14-9 2.97 era in 2007.

C.C. Sabathia on the other hand, also pitched six innings, allowing two runs, on eight hits, striking out two and walking two. Sabathia, and the Cleveland defense held the Twins offense to only two runs all game. Cleveland's bull pen no hit the Twins the last four innings, recording three strike outs, and one walk. Sabathia is 14-7 3.38 era in 2007.

The game on August 3rd was a great pitcher's duel, and should be again. Johan is the best pitcher in the league, and the Twins need to find a way to keep him around. Johan is always a dependable pitcher and a very fierce competitor. An exceptional addition to our rotation since 2000.

THANK YOU JOHAN

i know you're just comparing the end results... but that being said, a matchup of Sabathia and Santana should never under any circumstances be compared to Silva v Byrd.

Have you checked the bottom of Santana's title certificate? So far, this year, the Indians have owned him.

Where would the Twins be if they had Liriano?

Excellent question...with a healthy Liriano, about 15 game up in the win column.
