Barry Bonds' 755: MLB 1895-2007. Rest In Peace. It's Been Fun.

Bonds got his 755th. Selig sat idly by and let it happen. Records no longer have any meaning. The game is losing its meaning at the major league level. I'm fed up with the endemic corruption of MLB. I'll stick with the minors, thanks. The one good thing that Bud Light did in his whole miserable tenure as the Commish was to effect a very tough drug policy in the minors. Use once get a big suspension and counseling. Use twice, and they kick you out of the game. He can't sell that to the MLBPA, which is equally to blame for the fiascos of the Maris-breaking home run derby of a few years back and now this.

Hank, we love ya' baby. You're still the real record holder.

I think that the steroid era is about over. There are young stars in the game now like Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Grady Sizemore, and others. After Bonds is gone I think we will be about done hearing about steroids.

Although we all hope the steroid issue would be over, it will NEVER stop. As long as they are available, there will still be plenty of young players targeting steroids to get the upper edge. Maybe we will stop hearing about them, for a while, but there isnt really a steroid era. Steroids will play a part of baseball for a long time to come, unfortunately. Especially if we can't figure out how people like Barry Bonds can cheat a steroid test and get around it.

Overreacting a little?

I think it's quite unfair to say that "Bud Selig sat idly by and let it happen." Selig has done what he could, which isn't much when faced with a union as strong as the Baseball Players'. The last 15 years have been tainted. I'll grant that. But let's focus on making the NEXT 15 years great, which I believe Selig is addressing with the harshness of the minor league drug policy, instead of wallowing in complaints.

It's going to take a hell of a lot more than some juiced-up assholes to take away my love of baseball.

Baseball is a game of stats and records. We measure its long history by them. What does 755 home runs mean? It meant that Hank Aaron, who played fewer games per year, did it faster, and didn't do it juiced, holds that record. Maris, likewise produced his 61 on pure play.

McGwire? Sosa? Bonds? Granted, they will pass into the annals of the game as the "Steroids Era" and largely be discounted, BUT... Without asterisk, the game's long history is SPAT upon by Bonds, another FU from a talented player who showcases "Me" ball well in a league full of guys who take the "ME" first in TEAM.

The pendulum has swung too far if Selig can't suspend someone that is clearly a juicer. We continue to pay and pay and say absolutely nothing about the quality of th e game and the ethics that it should have? How stupid are WE, the fans and those who cover the game, if we don't say a loud NO somewhere. It's tough to get involved in Collective Bargaining Agreements. Everyone is out for their piece. As to records, though, these are the legacy of the game. Every fan should stand in utter silence when 756 rolls around. It is a travesty, not a tribute.

Put his "achievement" to the scrutiny of a very public run over his physical status for every game by an investigative/historical committee. He passes that, fine. Otherwise his 'record' is a blot on the game and it does taint it. By your reckoning we should let Pete Rose coach, and probably readmit the 1919 Black Sox. Why not? As long as guys keep stepping up to the plate, what does it matter? Right?

What a joke.
