Balco Bonds Hits No.747
Barry "Balco" Bonds hit his 747th home run of his career and 13th of the season in a 4-3 interleague win over the Blue Jays as the Giants ended a three game losing streak. Balco still needs nine more home runs to pass Hank Aaron. Just when I was thinking Bonds may not pass Aaron this year he hits another one. Will be interesting to see what Allan Huber "Bud" Selig Jr. decides to do if and when Bonds does pass Aaron. If I was Selig I would not be there because Bonds is ornery enough to try to show him up or ignore him if Selig does show up.
Despite me not being a Selig fan I do appreciate what he did to bring major league baseball back to Milwaukee after the Milwaukee Braves left town and became the Atlanta Braves leaving the loyal Milwaukee fans without a team. According to wikipedia.com Selig hopes President George Bush will become the new commissioner of baseball since Bush was previously a partner in owning the Texas Rangers. Have heard reports that Bush invested $600,000 in the Rangers and when the team was sold pocketed $14 million making a $13.4 million profit.
Around the Bases
Ryan Howard hit his third home run in last four games as the Phillies defeated the White Sox with a sterling pitching performance by Adam Eaton who pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball allowing only four hits in the win. It was Eaton's best game of the season and his fourth win in his last five starts....Raul Ibanez is 4 for 5 and drove in 5 runs while hitting his 3rd and 4th homers of the year along with a double and a triple in the Mariners 8-7 win over the Indians. Going into the game on June 8th he had one home run all season but since then has hit three in last four games. He is still driving in runs having 19 in May despite not hitting a home run that month and 41 for the season.
Carlos Zambrano 7-5 is back on track having won his last two starts as he pitched and hit the Cubs to a 2-1 win over the Astros. He pitched 8 innings allowing one run and three hits and drove in the game winning run with his second home run of the season. The win moved the Cubs into a second place tie with Cardinals in NL Central with both teams 5 1/2 games back of the Brewers....Randy Wolf 8-4 became only the second NL pitcher to record his eighth win of the season as the Dodgers took a 5-3 win over the slumping Mets. Mets lost their third straight game and have lost 8 of their last ten. Their lead over the second place Braves now stands at 2 games and they are 4 games over the third place Phillies who are only team in NL East with a winning record in last ten games at 7-3.
Stats Corner
Since there were only five games will focus on some of the milestones that may be reached this season:
Hitting
Craig Biggio has 2080 hits but it may take a lot longer than he thought it would to reach 3000 hits since he has only 3 hits in his last 32 at bats as his average slipped to .219 for the season and is hitting .094 for the month of June. He had 23 hits in April and 24 in May so could have reached 3000 hit plateau this month but it looks doubtful that will happen this month. Barry Bonds needs 116 hits to reach 3000 mark.
Barry "Balco" Bonds needs 8 home runs to tie Hank Aaron for career home run record and needs 9 home runs to pass Aaron when he hits No.756.
