Barney Poole (George Barney Poole) was born on October 29, 1923 in Gloster, Mississippi. After going to high school at Crosby (MS), Poole attended Army College, the University of Mississippi and the University of North Carolina. Poole made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1949 with the New York Yankees. He played in the AAFC for 1 year, playing for the New York Yankees the entire time. Poole also played in the NFL for 5 years, playing for the New York Yanks, New York Giants, Baltimore Colts and Dallas Cowboys over the course of his 5 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1949 was Barney Poole's best year.
