Barney McCosky (William Barney McCosky) was born on April 11, 1917 in Coal Run, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on April 18, 1939 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1939, his rookie year, he hit .311 with 4 home runs and 58 RBI. McCosky played for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 10 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Barney McCosky's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1940, when he hit for a .340 average and knocked in 57 runs. However, others believe that it was 1939, when he hit for a .311 average and knocked in 58 runs.
