The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 7-6, to avoid a three game sweep. Kurt Birkins got the win, pitching 1.1 innings of relief. Birkins struck out 2 and lowered his ERA to 0.64 after taking over for Kris Benson. Kelvim Escobar got the loss after allowing 3 runs in the 7th.
Miguel Tejada had 2 RBI (38 for the year) and lead a balanced attack by the O's that cranked out 13 hits. Javy Lopez (17), Brian Roberts (14), Melvin Mora (26), and Nick Markakis (11) all drove in 1 run apiece. Corey Patterson went 2 for 4, scoring twice, and stealing his 17th base of the season.
The Angels had 11 hits. Tim Salmon drove in 2 runs (17), with Orlando Cabrera (31), Vladimir Guerrero (44),Kendry Morales (6), Adam Kennedy (21) all driving in 1 apiece. Guerrero also stole his 4th base of the season.
The Oriole's Chris Ray went 2 innings for the save after LaTroy Hawkins gave up 3 hits in the 8th and recorded no outs. Ray got Garret Anderson to ground in a double play with the bases loaded to end the game.
