Jered Weaver (1-0) pitched seven scoreless innings in his first major league start to give the Angels their 4th straight win. Home Runs by veteran Tim Salmon and rookies Kendry Morales and Tommy Murphy provided plenty offense to propel the Angels to a 10-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

The Angels struck first when Orlando Cabrera scored on a Garret Anderson single in the first. In the second, things got worse for Orioles starter Erik Bedard (5-4) when he walked Mike Napoli with bases loaded to score Juan Rivera. Garret Anderson followed with a fielder’s choice that scored Robb Quinlan. Vlad finished off the scoring in the inning with a single that pushed home Cabrera.

The Angels would get 2 more in the fourth with Salmon’s 6th home run of the year and 3 more in the 6th with Morales’ 2nd. Tommy Murphy finished things off in the 8th with a solo home run, the 1st of his career.

Weaver pitched seven solid innings, striking out 5 and giving up only 3 hits and one walk. His only real trouble came in the second when he gave up a single to Javy Lopez followed by a double to Ramon Hernandez. Then, on a 1-1 pitch, Jeff Conine hit a fly ball out to Guerrero who caught it and fired a bullet to Mike Napoli who tagged Lopez out at home for the double play.

The only scoring by Baltimore came in the 8th when Kevin Gregg replaced Weaver on the mound. Gregg walked Luis Matos to start off the inning, but looked to be escaping the inning without any problems until back to back singles by Melvin Mora and Brandon Fahey drove Matos home. That was all they would get however.

The win bumps the Angels (21-28) into a tie with Seattle at 4 games behind Texas, who lost to Oakland. Baltimore (22-28) falls to 8.5 behind Boston, who beat Tampa Bay.

What's happened to Bedard? He started out great, but lately he's been rotten.
