Baker Near Perfect

In game two of the Twin-bil, Twins' starter Scott Baker was so very dominant. Baker, who has pitched very well lately, went into the ninth inning, pitching a perfect game. Baker then walked the lead off batter, catcher John Buck, which broke up perfect game, and a one out single to pinch hitter Mike Sweeney, that broke up the no hitter, on a line drive to center fielder Torii Hunter.
This is by far Baker's best season in the big leagues. Scott has been with the Twins for three years, and in their Minor League programs since 2003. Baker made his Major League debut in 2005, with this being his longest stint playing for the Twins since that time. Baker has done exceptionally well in the month of August, with a record of 3-2, and an era at 2.59. Baker had six starts this month, earning a decision in all but one game in Seattle, on August 15. Minnesota won that game 6-1.
Last night, Baker pitched his first career nine inning shut out, on only one hit, one walk, and matched a career high nine strike outs for one game. Scott only threw 111 pitches, and 81 of those pitches were strikes. In an article by Leslie Parker, Baker chalked last nights game up to the birth of his second son, Easton, who was born in Shreveport, La., late last Friday night. Easton was born five weeks premature, and Baker has been traveling back and forth to Louisiana due to the birth.
Also in that article, Baker was quoted as saying: "It was just one of those nights," Baker said. "I know a lot's been going on, and it just keeps things in perspective. Once you get things in perspective, it just makes this game more fun than anything."
Baker capped off a very exciting month for himself, having a solid month on the mound, the birth of his second child, then ending the month with a near perfect game. It can't get much better than that.
Congratulations Scott

Good Luck
