Bad Boys: Reds' Shackleford Arrested for Alleged Rape

Cue the Bad Boys song yet again.

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brian Shackelford was arrested for possible third-degree sexual assault earlier today in Milwaukee. The alleged incident occurred this past Monday.

Prior to this arrest, Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull was the last sports related person arrested. On average, there has been at least one professional athlete arrested per week since at least May of this year.

Therefore, I am naming this year the Year of the Arrested Player.

On a personal note - this is truly getting embarassing. I know Charles Barkley once said that he was not a role model, and many people have said that players should not be role models. Nonetheless, even if they are not role models, they SHOULD NOT be criminals.

Drug Dealers / Users
Wife Beaters
Rapists
Violence

These are all crimes that players have been accused of in 2006. And we are only in July.

I kinda like that idea. How would we do it? It would be hard to do "most arrested," because most people don't get arrested more than once in a year. Maybe most outrageous crime committed? Or maybe most stupid? We could even do a funniest arrest, like a few years ago when Nate Newton got arrested for drug trafficking while on probation for drug trafficking.

You could go with the defending NFL champs, invite them twice to the White House. The Steelers had two players charged in one day, Santonio Holmes and Ben Roethlisberger. One a little more serious than the other obviously, but still, two players charged with crimes in a day, quite the accomplishment.
