So this will be my first roleplay out of many for ArmchairGM and for KSN. If y'all don't know me, you can just call me Kwass. So you're a Mets fan sitting on your couch watching Game 3 of the Mets and the Atlanta Braves. You're like: "Okay, the Mets aren't hitting with runners in scoring position so I guess they will get a big game out of their bullpen today." I mean, the Mets put a halt to their Tomahawk chopping fears in 2006 by winning 6 of 9 at Turner Field last year. But, when in the eighth inning on Sunday, when you saw Jeff Francoeur strolling to the plate and Brian McCann leading off second, and that "Ay-Ay-Ay-Ay-OHHHHH" annoying Braves chant going in the background, you knew it was trouble. Not even Aaron Heilman, the Mets most productive reliever could get out of that inning unscaved.
And of course, you excepted the Mets wouldn't even muster a hit off Braves rejuvenated closer Bob Wickman in the ninth inning. Well, Mets fans, You don't want to say it but the Braves are back. Yes, Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones got fooled time and time again by Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez on Sunday, and they're not themselves yet. However, Brian McCann thinks he's Mike Piazza in the early part of '07 and Jeff Francoeur thinks he's Vladimir Guerrero.
So, Mets fans where do you go from here? First, you got to realize that the Mets will not run away with the NL East this year as long as the Braves keep playing the way they are. If you are a die-hard New York Sports fans, do you go to follow the Rangers in the postseason and the Knicks playoff push. Nah, I think you look on the bright side and see that the Phillies are coming into Shea tomorrow with a (1-5) record after their loss to the Florida Marlins today and that it will be the orange & blue, and not those daring tomahawks that will be celebrating and playing meaningful games in September.
