BYE BYE TORRE

Failing in three playoff appearances brought rumors of New York Yankees Manager Joe Torre being fired. He hasn't impressed many, and can't find success.

This was expected; firing Torre has been the idea for a while, nothing changed.

"I don't feel good about it," closer Mariano Rivera said. "I don't see why they're even thinking (about letting Torre go). I wish he's back, definitely. If you ask me what I would want, I want him back." He doesn't bring success, and almost failed in the regular season. It's time for a change.

Torre is finished, and needs to retire. He lost energy, and doesn't provide victories in the playoffs.

"It might do a lot of it," Rivera said. "I mean, I've been with Joe for so many years, and the kind of person he has been for me and for my teammates, it's been great. The thing is that I don't see why they have to put him in this position." Is Rivera crazy? Torre has failed this season, and the last 2 as well. The Yankees need a change, and another manager will help.

Torre's memories should remain, because it helped the Yankees. He did a lot, but that's the past. The present is here, and Torre can't win. He struggles in the post-season, and doesn't have energy.

"I'm an optimist, so hopefully nothing happens and he stays here," Rivera said. He shouldn't stay, he needs to leave.

A consistent and experienced winner will help the Yank's.

Joe Girardi will be great. He's young, and knowledgeable about the Yankees. Girardi could make a difference as the manager.

Don Mattingly is another possibility, because his experience with the Yank's. He's helped them, and could manage them as well. "Obviously the biggest challenge for Donnie's going to be the media," Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long said. "He's as knowledgeable a baseball man as I've ever been around. But the media challenge is still there. Nobody knows how he's going to deal with that. I don't even think he knows how he's going to deal with that. That's the biggest challenge." He knows what's coming, because he's been with the Yankees. Mattingly knows what to expect.

Tony La Russa is another name, it should be expected. "I don't know what Tony's going to do," Duncan said. "Right now the Cardinals are a mess. They don't have a GM. I just really try to stay away from the rumors with Tony and my dad." La Russa managing the Yankees could work, but he'll break down. He can't handle the media pressure, and it will "kill" him.

Torre's love shouldn't end, but its business. "I love Joe. Joe's unbelievable," said Duncan. "Everybody on this team will tell you the same thing. He really cares about us as people." That's understandable, it shouldn't change. Torre has done a lot for the players, but it’s all about winning. A manager shouldn't stay if he doesn't win.

I am not a New York Yankee fan (ask Kelsdad for further explanation if required) but as a fan of BASEBALL, I have tremendous respect for Joe Torre. This man has been a rock of stability for the Yankees and served as an effective bridge between the players and management/ownership of the team for well over a decade.

George Steinbrenner owns the team and it will (as always has been) be his decision on who manages the ball club. Your rather jovial attitude towards the perhaps imminent termination of this man's managerial career with the team is rather crass, considering the stature and longevity of an impressive and remarkable overall run.

Perhaps one day, many years later, after serving a long and distinguished corporate career, you too may face the axe of an employer. And by then, you might just unfortunately experience the point that I am trying to make here right now.

Should Torre leave the team, no matter who is selected as the next manager, awfully large shoes (along with even bigger expectations) would have to be filled. And mind you, no quantity of youthful "energy" (what the heck do you really mean by that anyways?) can equal BRAINS and PATIENCE when dealing with the enormous day to day pressures of managing the highest profiled franchise in all of sports.

In Football, you need energy in a coach. In baseball, you need paitence. If the team loses game one of a series, the manager needs to keep his players focused and remind them that 2 out of 3 is good. Torre provides paitence

Joe Torre isn't going to be fired by the yankees in 2007... His contract just ended...extending/offering him a new one is a distinct possibility...but its not firing

Already, Technicality Brothers... They could fire him before his contract expires. Contracts don't end when their team's season does... they have specific dates or specific time periods like "two weeks after the end of the World Series"...

Joe Torre can't be fired. His contract expired September 30th, so, technically, he is already unemployed.

Energy is needed, because it fires up his players. Lou Penilla has a lot of energy, and that's part of the reason why he's successful.

No. Learn to spell, and for that matter, write. They invented things like spell check, ESPN.com, sports team websites, and Microsoft Word for a reason. Put them to use.

WTF? There is no reason to lash out and insult the guy. If you want to contribute positively to this community, help edit his articles or explain to him how you think he can become a "better" writer in your opinion. Attacking him like you do doesn't benefit anyone, and just makes you look like an asshole.

I don't need to justify the fact that the Yankees should keep Joe Torre...look at the numbers... but if Andy MacPhail decided to hire him as the next O's manager, I'd be rather happy :)

I don't think Joe Torre can ever take another job. All he can do is sully his reputation. He had it made in NY where he always had the best or one of the best teams in baseball. He should just retire being the guy who led the Yankees to 6 World Series. His legend will be even better if and when the Yanks don't win the world series for say the next 10 years.

All the losses shouldn't be pinned on the manager, he can only do so much, it's the players that win or lose, or maybe just maybe its the Mike Mussina Curse, since they haven't one a world series since he joined the team, i'm glad that curse is there down with the yanks!
