Just mentioned on Cable News Network (CNN), the Associated Press and Reuters report this afternoon that former tennis star Martina Hingis tested positive for cocaine prior to Wimbledon earlier this year. As this news became public today, Hingis announced her retirement at the age of 27.
During the height of her career, Hingis was at one point ranked #1 in the world and had won five Grand Slam titles. She maintains she is innocent of the drug allegations, but states she's retiring due to health issues. Hingis had to overcome various injuries in recent years, including ligament damage to both her ankles. But retiring at such a young age is in a way a bit puzzling.
