BREAKING NEWS: Bills TE Kevin Everett

by Baltimoresports247

ESPN.com is reporting that Kevin Everett has been transferred to a rehab facility in Houston, near his hometown, to rehabilitate his life-threatening c-spine injury. There was specualtion earlier as to where he was headed, but now it has been made official.

Doctors remain optimistic that he will begin to walk again sooner rather than later. What GREAT news coming into an exciting weekend in pro football.

Going home from the hospital is a HUGE step for Everett. As a medical student, I have learned that this is truely the breaking point for most people with cervical spine injuries. We always say "C's 3, 4 and 5 keep the phrenic nerve alive." The phrenic nerve is the nerve that dictates respiratory muscle function via the diaphragm and supports liver function, so this is a HUGE step for Everett. However, he is not out of the dark yet, so please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Cheers and happy weekend!

"C's 3, 4 and 5 keep the phrenic nerve alive." For reference, C refers to the cervical spine. I don't mean to offend anyone's knowledge, I just thought I'd clarify just in case.

This is the story of the year in sports. This will be remembered for generations to come. When the day comes that he returns to walking, we should put in the Kevin Everett avatars again.

You all should have put Dr Cappuccino avatars up instead. He's the hero of the story!

Minuses? Seriously? Cappuccino did something extremely risky and controversial that made all the difference. Thousands of people in Everett's position might now get the same amazing chance that he has... Cappuccino is the Alexander Graham Bell in the story, Everett is Watson...

I meant to say, minus me... don't minus Cappuccino (well, you minus the drink to hell, but not the doctor)

yep, I have been covering the story since it started, think I have done several articles, not just here, but on my blog and in the paper...so it has gotten a fair bit of coverage. The key thing is that they plan to stand him up soon and they figure he will be walking in a matter of weeks.

Mike Vick got more attention than the 26 people who drown in flooding in the Midwest... People who watch TV are more shocked by an injured animal than a dead human... EVERY TIME. And dead humans are more interesting than hurt ones...
