B. Boone Retires

After a 14-year MLB career, three-time All-Star Bret Boone announced today that he would retire from baseball. Boone, 37, had signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets for the 2006 season. Last year he batted .221 in 88 games with Minnesota and Seattle. Mets GM Omar Minaya said he supported the decision, and wasn't disappointed.
