Aw, Poor Little Rex

Over the past 2 years, how many times have you heard Bears head coach Lovie Smith say the phrase, "Rex Grossman is our quarterback?"  Well its about time that he realized how bad his quarterback really is.  Since Rex Grossman has been the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, despite making it to the Superbowl last season.  Yeah we know that Brian Griese isn't the answer for Chicago's problems but he'll have to do for now.

Rex probably had the best chance to redeem himself since the Bears' next opponent are the Detroit Lions, who happen to be 2-1, but I guess if Grossman would have lost that game, Lovie Smith would have probably been embarrased so it probably was the best choice to bench him now.  The question is, why didn't Chicago address this situation earlier?  Lets be for real here.  Rex isn't your typical "Franchise QB," and he never would be.  So why didnt the Bears go for a quarterback that could be one.

Two key free agents that they could have went for were Daunte Culpepper or Byron Leftwich.  Ok, maybe they wouldn't be franchise players either, but at least they have a decent background.  Leftwich may have been in an akward situation these last two years with having to deal with injuries and the battle with David Garrard, but at least the guy has more touchdowns than interceptions.  And yeah, maybe Daunte has also been injured and hasn't looked good these past 2 seasons when he did play.

But let me remind you, he played for the Miami Dolphins who didn't have one reciever catch for 1000 yards last season, and he plays for the Oakland Raiders now.  So why wouldn't Leftwich or Culpepper be good for the Bears?  At least a backup until this type of situation happened.  Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe Brian Griese will be a bit of help for the Bears.  Well, we'll have to see what happens next.

I lost all respect for Rex Grossman when he was going through struggles at the end of last year and admitted that he was not focused on the Green Bay game because it was New Years, not that I had much respect for Grossman before that. I dont think they could do much worse by putting Greise or Orton in the game, or maybe just eliminate the quarterback from the gameplan and let the runningbacks take the snaps directly. (pretend that last part is in sarcasm font, even though it would actually be better than Grossman) I dont see why the Bears dont improve their quarterback situation but I think it could be better done from the inside then by signing left overs from the Dolphins or Jaguars.
