- Formula 1 driver Juan Manuel Fangio wins his final race the 1957 German Grand Prix. He would win the World Championship in 1957, his final time, his fifth total and fourth consecutive title.

- Dave Winfield of the New York Yankees threw a baseball that accidentally killed a seagull during warm-ups. The Toroto police arrested him after the game for "causing unnecessary suffering to an animal."
