Augie Lio (Agostino Salvatore Lio) was born on April 30, 1918 in East Boston, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Passaic (NJ), Lio attended Georgetown University. Lio made his professional debut in the NFL in 1941 with the Detroit Lions. He played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the Detroit Lions, Boston Yanks and Philadelphia Eagles over the course of his 6 year NFL career.Lio also played in the AAFC for 1 year, playing for the Baltimore Colts the entire time.

Most people believe that 1941 was Augie Lio's best year, as he picked off 3 passes and ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
