Born on August 19, 1910 in Morton, Mississippi, Atley Donald (Richard Atley Donald) played for the New York Yankees for his entire 8 year career. Donald broke into the bigs on April 21, 1938 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.71 ERA in 153 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Atley Donald's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1939, when he posted a 3.71 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 55 batters. However, others believe that it was 1942, when he posted a 3.11 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 53 batters.
