Good hire. He's done a lot in his time there and should be good for Vick.

I think Vick's time might be done. I think Petrino might have a contest in training camp for the job, and Shuab will win. Vick and Dunn will be the Rb's

Vick doesn't have the skill, talent, awareness and humbleness to move to running back. He runs best when everyone forgets he can run, not when it's obvious he's going to.

Schaub should be the QB but I doubt he will get the knod over Vick. First of all I doubt the Falcons would be willing to pay both QB's salaries next season, since Schaub's contracts expires in the next few months he wil move on. Patrino is a smart coach who likes to scheme up a lot of crazy things, I think he could come up with some great ways to use Vick in the offense

all right, then trade Vick as soon as Schuab wins the job. I'm sure some team would take his ahem...Oakland....ahem.

Wow Im usually the first to throw Vick under the bus, but I think it will be Schaub looking for a new home (think Minn) rather than Vick

Minn won't have a new QB, it will be jackson or Bollinger. Patrino won't want to deal with Vick because he will want a better QB, not a good rusher that occasionally throws

True but how willing will the Atlanta ownership be to part ways with their cash cow Vick

Vick still sells jerseys and makes the highlight reel every weekend. As long as kids by the jerseys the Falcons will keep him around, and the fans will make excuses for him. It can be done, Barry Sanders is still talked about for his moves and he never had a team that could contend.

The only reason the lions even remotely contended was because of Barry (see Scott Mitchell).

Don't compare his to Barry Sanders, it does him a disservice. Sanders was a HOF player stuck on a team going nowhere. Vick is a bust, plain and simple. The Falcons office have an ultimaium (sp?) to decide on. Do they continue to keep vick for the money, or do they try and win. If they keep Vick for the money, and not because they think he can be a productive QB, then the firing of Mora was out of line. Mora kept utilizing Vick in every way he could, and he still couldn't succeed.

Hiring a college coach means the Falcons have decided to keep Vick. An "inmates run the asylum" situation. Petrino has his wish to coach in the big time, but he'll find the going tough when he finds his immediate supervisor is the starting QB.

or maybe Brohm will come out and the falcons will draft him, and have him sit behind vick for a year to get ready for the pros

I gotta admit, I didn't see this one coming. Good move by the Falcons.

I have zero faith in college coaches working in the pros. Outside of Jimmy Johnson, who has been great. Falcons were better off hiring Ken Wisenhunt than hiring a college coach.

All of the recent Super Bowl winnings coaches got their starts in college football save for Cowher. Hiring college experienced coaches is still a proven road to success. The view that college coaches can't win is just skewed recently by the big name hirings of Saban and Spurrier.

Nick Saban in Reverse anyone...looks like Bobby just signed a 10 year contract and bam...he's gone...I get the move, but If I were a Cards fan, i'd be pissed... I also Agree Leslie, I would go the promotion way (Assistants to Head Coaches) rather than promote via the college ranks...now if I wanted an offensive Coord...hmm...

I don't care what a college coach has done I don't believe any college coach should get a head coaching job right away. I believe if college coaches want to come to the NFL than they should fill a job such as O.C. or D.C. first and prove that they can get it done while learning the difference between the NFL and college. Also I don't believe any head coach should have full control of the team. Every team should have a G.M. if they want to be a successful team that can compete year in and year out.

I agree with the last part to a point. Belichik has most of the GM control, but he doesn't just go with his own judgement. His VP of player personel Scott Pioli helps him alot
