Some players on the wire are quick pickups. Some are the guys you watch and wait for. Some are not even on the waiver list yet. Here is a taste of each for you to close out 2007 with.

Jordan Leopold, D, Colorado - When the Avs traded for Jordan Leopold two years ago, I would bet that they had no clue that they were getting such a fragile player. Injury prone, Leopold was limited to just 15 games last season after he was acquired from Calgary for LW Alex Tanguay, and has seen action in only 11 games this season as well. However, he does have lots of offensive ability when he is healthy. Returning from his second broken wrist in two seasons, the unlucky defenseman then missed a few tilts due to a deep skate cut on his thigh courtesy of a teammate. Finally back in good physical shape, Leopold scored his 2nd goal of the year on Saturday, giving him 3 points in 11 games, with 2 in his last four - albeit over a two-week period. I have got a soft spot on my blueline for Leopold and will be watching him closely. Should he stay healthy for a week or two, he is worth an add, as his nose for the goal on such an offensive squad should lead to the Avalanche finally seeing the PP anchor they thought they traded for two years ago.

Mike Comrie, C, NY Islanders - The Islanders are streaky, and have been without their #1 goaltender Rick DiPietro for the past three games. Over those past three games, however, #1 center Comrie has put up 3 Goals (including a game-winner), 2 Assists, 14 Shots on Goal, plus a Fighting Major. The Isles went 2-1 over those three games and have won 4 of their last five. Paired with RW Bill Guerin (4 Goals in his last five games), Comrie's top line has decided to pick up their game at the right time. Centers are a dime a dozen in most fantasy leagues, but that means that they are the most streamable players out there. Jump on the Comrie bandwagon if one of your pivots has been dry lately.

Valtteri Filppula, C, Detroit - When LW Henrik Zetterberg went down on December 20 with a bad back, someone had to step it up. Luckily for Detroit, Filppula has been unbelievably good - he has put up 4 Goals in the past six games, 9 Goals in his past 11 and has a six-game point scoring streak (6 Goals, 2 Assists). That brings his season totals to 13 Goals, 8 Assists in just 39 games, handily topping his previous best of 10G, 7A for 17 Points in 73 games last year. Filppula has a nice .228 Shooting % for fantasy leagues that count it, and dual position eligibility at LW should not be too far off either. Zetterberg is still listed as DTD, but is not expected back for at least a week. So, Filppula makes a nice pickup. Once Zetterberg gets back, he gives Detroit a scoring option that they did not know they had.

John Grahame, G, Carolina - Cam Ward has stumbled mightily in December and was pulled on Saturday night for the second time in three games. Winless in seven... (Read the full article here: Week 14 Frozen Waiver Watch)
