About the Author

BigPPup
AGM Linebacker and I will bring the pain.

I'm a sports fanatic. I hail from Nelson County Virginia, and thats where I learned to be a Virginia Cavalier fan. I also learned to be a Dallas Cowboys fan because I hated how good the Redskins were doing. I've played sports at almost every level with the exception of being a fulltime professional, as a result I have a great perception on the sporting world. I love to talk sports and I've never been shy to share my opinion with someone.

Happy New Years and all of that to everyone reading this, hope Santa was good to you all.  That being said, it is a new year, but don’t worry Walker’s Rants are still going strong, and you can expect the same hot fire every time out.

I wish there was a playoff in college football, but nonetheless I do love the bowl season…

The Washington Redskins scare me as an NFC contender…

Hockey outside… I like that…

Is the NBA season still going on?

I don’t care that the Pats went 16-0…

UVA let one go…

Hawaii proved the difference between a mid-major and a power conference school…

Andre Ware, Timmy Chang, Tim Couch, and now Colt Brenan great in college not so much in the NFL…

USC will be back on top again very soon…

Lloyd Carr, well done great career that is how you close out a career…

The Cotton Bowl still means something…

Brian Billick will return as a head coach, but he milked his tenure for all it was worth…

It was good to see Chuck Liddell get back into the win column…

The Cincinnati Bengals need to retool their entire organization and that means a coaching change…

Chris Long will be one hellUVA balla in the NFL…

UVA pulls the upset and trounces Xavier by 8 in their own place on Thursday…

John Lynch will retire this offseason…

Sean Alexander might be the softest big play RB in the NFL…

Michael Hart, not the back I thought he was and that’s not a good thing…

Darren McFadden: That draft stock doesn’t look as good as it once was…

I cannot believe that I have watched more NHL action, than NBA thus far these seasons…

Watch for me on Thursday night I’ll be the guy in all orange at the XU vs. UVA game…

Hockey outside is indeed fun I remember playing in a outside roller game it was about -15F, there was so much snow and ice that both teams decided to take off the roller blades and go it in shoes. I couldn't feel my face and hands after the game, great fun. I don't know very much about bowl games but it seems to me that there is really only one that means anything, the rest just seem to be some kind of friendly match.

In a lot of way they are friendly's but they are for bragging rights, and they are for pride and they are for loyalty. It is a good chance to get teams taht you woul dnot expect or normally get to see to match up.

BigPPup... "frendlies". -15F! That must be... (-15 - 32 = -47, -47/1.8...) -26C or thereabouts. That's cold...

Why doesn't the rest of the world just get on board with the American way?

C'mon Alex, lead the charge.

Water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F. Who want to use water freezing at 0°C and boiling at 100°C? That's just a silly system.

Don't even get me started on meters and grams. . .

12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, doesn't that make a ton of sense to you?

I dunno what it was in Centigrade but it was indeed very frigid, but still a great deal of fun, especially as the inside of your nose would freeze.

Hold on a minute. We still use imperial all of the time. In a butchers, you'd ask for a pound of bacon (for instance), not 550g of it. And road signs are all in miles, never kilometers. Legally, speed limits are 30mph, not 50km/h. Horse races are imperial, for instance, the Grand National is "4 miles 4 furlongs". Mainland Europe uses all metric stuff - it uses the same currency too. They sacrifice national identity for a better economy. Happily, British people want to dodge that bullet.

We do use Celsius though instead of Farenheit. It isn't really an example of imperial and metric though is it? I think it was invented purely for ease.

And besides, we used to have imperial money until 1970! You've always had the "metric" money. We had a farthing, halfpenny (ape-nee), penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling, two shillings, half a crown, crown, pound, guineas... Pennies had the symbol "d" to confuse matters. Farthings were 1/4 penny. A shilling was 12 old pennies. There were 20 shillings to the old pound. A crown was worth 5 shillings, hence 4 crowns to a pound. The guinea changed value, depending on how much gold was worth! But it eventually settled on 30 shillings, or £1 1/2. This tremendous system was changed in 1970 though. :(

Oh, and Cheezer, "meters" are not the same thing here as "metres". You can have 20 metres, or an electricity meter. Different things completely.
